Serves 2
For the margarita:
4 oz tequila
2 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz makrut simple syrup (see instructions below)
1 oz orange liqueur such as Grand Marnier
Additional lime wedges for garnish
For the makrut syrup:
1 cup sugar
10 makrut leaves (also known as kaffir lime)
To make the syrup:
Add one cup water and one cup sugar to a medium saucepan and place over medium-high heat.
Add makrut leaves and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
Allow to gently boil for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
Allow the makrut leaves to steep in the syrup at room temperature (we recommend at least 4 hours).
Pour syrup through a fine mesh strainer to remove the leaves and into a glass gar or airtight container for storage.
Syrup can be kept for 30 days in the refrigerator.
To make the margaritas:
Prepare your glasses. You can start by adding a salt rim to the glasses. Then fill with ice.
Add all margarita ingredients into a shaker with ice
Shake for 15-20 seconds until fully chilled
Strain into prepared glasses.
Garnish with lime wedges and serve.
